No deal on the horizon

Some places are reporting that a deal is just about finalized with SoundExchange, but this is not correct. I think they're referring to the NPR/SoundExchange deal, which I hear is getting close to being finalized. But that doesn't do any good for all the other webcasters out there!

I sent an e-mail to Senator Obama (I'm in IL) asking for his support on this issue and got what I presume to be a boilerplate response. The signature was his name and there were points that I specifically mentioned addressed but I assume it was a page doing the grunt work.

More importantly, they got the gist totally wrong (or they obfuscated it on purpose) and the emphasis went from fair use for small broadcasters to the importance of protecting intellectual property. If it wasn't just a cut and paste e-mail response, I'm thinking the Obama camp is in league with the RIAA. This could throw a wrench in my voting plans.
