Why a Windows Media feed ? MP3 is fine and even Windows Media Player can read it.. Why encourage MS even morally ? They don't deserve it. And besides, they pick up stats on what users do.. Did you know that everytime one reads a DVD with WMP, the name of the DVD as well as your IP is sent back to MS ? Don't let them control the future of media. Please. Stay out. -- Phil, June 3, at 10:59p

I think in addition to these great stations you could use a lounge music type chill-out station, less beats, more classic remixes of classic martini-sippin' grooves. Keep it up. -- Tessio, May 30, at 1:46a

Your station is the best thing in the world. I find myself constantly listening to almost every station on here. Very good music to get me into the mood to code :D -- Daniel Perry, May 29, at 8:50p

Absolutely LOVE Drone Zone. I keep it on 24/7. I've gotten so addicted that I cannot sleep without it. Glad you guys are back. (It would be even cooler at a bitrate 128k or higher...right now the 128k link on the webpage connects to a 112k stream.) -- Raheel, May 29, at 7:56p

Indie pop Rocks!! Great station! Started listening at work about 3 mos. ago. Love it. Could use more Liz Phair and Pavement and a little less Apples in Stereo, but otherwise very good. Keep it up! -- dave, May 29, at 0:50p

I love your radio station, ever since I heard groove salad over 2 years ago I've been hooked, but once the RIAA took it down, it was a sad day indeed. I was wondering, wouldn't you ever think about putting up an ogg stream of a station? seeing how the quality is far superior to mp3 and well, at 85kbits/s and the quality is much better than any 192kbit mp3 file, I think it may be a cool thing to do. Doesn't take up as much bandwith either!. Well kick ass site and keep up the good work! :) -- Kyle, May 17, at 2:34p

Wanted to commend all involved in this great project - I would love to be apart of it. I live in SF (past 8 mo) and just today stumbled onto you site, having to come into work on Sat. and having forgot to bring my harddrive - I needed something GOOD to listen to. Thanks. Also, wondering what your current need of DJ's are (I can provide a comprehensive list of my music at your request). And finally, has any thought been given to an underground hiphop channel? Your thoughts/comments would be appreciated. -Mitch P. ismmeast@yahoo.com -- Mitch, May 3, at 0:12p

Hey Soma_fm Crew, your groove-salad-station is very excellent and exactly represents my expections that came up by reading the content of the winamp.com site and your homepage. The southcast-stream goes on and on and never breaks! A continous stream without any errors - I've now been listening for several weeks to your station and I'll go on donig so in the future. your groove-salad music is a real chance to leave all the stress of life behind and take of to the space of chillin ambient grooves...but I also like "spy lounge" ; I've nerver seen something like that before, a good idea! greetings, Linus from Germany [listening via ADSL 128kbit/s stream] P.S.: In your database, the Artist of the title "High noon" played on 16:38:59, is missing. Dear SomaFM: Once again, thanks to you, I have purchased a large swag of CD's, this time all from Waveform Records. Marvellous music like this deserves to be heard, and I'm glad you made me aware of it! And I hope that Big URL comes back someday...I hope slashdot didn't ruin that forever! (I notice the TTS site has been unresponsive since the day it was mentioned there...) -- Chickenhead, April 11, at 9:28a

The ONLY reason I ever get any work done is because of Beat Blender and Groove Salad! All the record execs need to get a clue: I've bought 10 cd's based on music I've heard on somafm's stations. If they were SMART they would play music for people who are sick of the norm, and let them click 1 button to buy a cd from an artist that is playing. Drone Zone is my favorite station to listen to when I am on Special K. It really puts you in another world, and becaue of its wonderful beatlessness, it makes a fantastic backdrop. I quote " ....Jeg elsker Somafm. Vćr sĺ snill og behold sending. Jeg elsker ikke noe bedre enn komming hjem etter arbeid og rřyking av mitt rřr og lytter til alle de stasjonene. Norge lytter! -- Jesse Rottboll, March 27, at 7:11a.... " basically, he says He Loves Somafm. He doesn't like listening to all the other stuff. And I quote: "...When I went out to meet some friends of mine Stereolab was playing and I really thought about staying at home ;-) Cologne -- Germany -- Micha, March 31, at 3:09p..." Though they weren't playing when I presently logged in (Sounds From The Ground - Triangle, on Groove Salad ), this quote, to me, pretty much sums it up...I love the salad. GrooveSalad keeps my head spinnin' and groovin' to the music which keeps me alive. I haven't listened in a while - and yet again I realize what I've missed (Bobby Trafalger - Homeshopping) - heard 'em all lots and even more new - yet I love them all! Again you help me to keep my soul grounded with the groove salad in this time of tumult and disarray, all the while allowing me the space I need to find my head. Again - you guys are the best! As the song just said - '..get your credit card ready...' - well, after much unfortunate delay, I shall send what I can once my card is free again after payments go through - honestly. You provide depth to my experience and help to bring a warmth from within. Thank you for letting me rant. Love is the law -- A grateful fan of Groove Salad and SomaFm, April 3, at 9:01p

indiepop really rocks!!! Yesterday I've received an email telling me of the "internet radio" somaFM. Usually I am (or rather was) no fan of internet based music-streams. But because I was lazying around I gave it a try. I was positively surprised while I saw WinAmp started playing (no f***ing Media- or RealPlayer). The song was quite nice - and then, my 2nd song on somaFM: Sonic Youth "Dirty Boots"! somaFM, girls & boys: you are great! I've listened to indipop the whole sunday afternoon and the music predominantly ranged between nice and great! When I went out to meet some friends of mine Stereolab was playing and I really thought about staying at home ;-) Cologne -- Germany -- Micha, March 31, at 3:09p

three years ago i came across a style of music that i never heard of before, it didn't have a name, nobody recognised what it was and i could not find more of it - anywhere. recently, i discovered your station on my i-tunes, and you ended my three year search for ‘secret agent’. i then discovered drone zone, and groove salad. i was looking for an agent and found the whole m i 5 hq. splendid style, exquisite taste and delicious addiction, thank you. saher - london - uk -- saher, March 31, at 0:24p

I wanted to thank you for making the work day bearable with the best mixes and grooves, awesome sound quality and overall smooth presentation. Everyone I talk on the net, I recommend somafm as the only station they need to have in the browser for the best mix. Instead of filling our CD player when we have a group of friends over, we just crank on Soma and let you all be the soundtrack for our party. Thanks for the music! -- Jim , March 20, at 5:24a

First of all, thank you for bringing out the best (I mean that) musc anywhere on the 'net. Soma rules. My only peeve is that some tracks on Secret Agent aren't tagged, so all I see when they're playing is the title - artist info is not displayed. I know it's a hassle to sit there and tag stuff, but it would be very helpful if you guys could do it. Again, thank you D -- DorkStar, March 20, at 4:01a

Didn't even realize there was an "Ambient" category in iTunes - tuned into your station and love it! Awesome job and keep up the great beats! -- Ryan, March 19, at 5:56p

I just wanted to say thanks. I am a huge indie fan, and I feel like I'm on the cutting edge when listening to you guys. I love the fact that I don't know about 80% of the stuff you put on here. It's humbling, and refreshing. You put a smile on my face every day - you're giving the gift of music, and there really is nothing better. Cheers! -- Mike Christie, March 19, at 10:15a

Groove Salad is what caught my eye. I have been searching for the music that they always play on the house speakers before a big rock concert. You know the type, they keep the volume really low, but you can tell the music hits at all frequencies high/ low. Sometimes that music is even better then the concert itself! I didn't know Groove Salad was a pat of Soma FM until later. All the stations are awesome. Thank you Soma!!! -- Terence Crandall, March 17, at 3:00p

Soma FM iz da numba one radioztation for me for a few months now. I live in Belgium and 'da connection' aka reception of the 128 stream is always perfect / no interupts. StarSTream iz Soma Heaven. Peace! -- DaPotZmokinProfezza, March 17, at 1:59p

Somafm is a stress reducing dream. The work day would be long, strenuous, and boring if not for the various streams pumping quality (commercial-free!) tunes through my little desktop speakers. Ever thought about ruling the world...oh wait, you do. -- BooBass in SD.CA.US, March 12, at 11:23a

Followed the link from www.thedownbeat.org, and lo! here's an excellent stream (Groove Salad). It's like listening to my MP3 collection, except with more MP3s. Love from frozen and windy St. Paul, MN. -- Paul Brazelton, February 24, at 10:26a

Stumbled onto your station while doing a report on the God Soma of Hindu Tradition. Still haven't tried the sacred Soma (Amenita muscaria) but I partake of your Soma everyday. I am a poor student with no money to send your way right now, but I do direct a lot of people to check out your station (and maybe some of them got money, lol) You're doing an amazing thing here with this site, please keep it up! -- Fern Maas, February 23, at 6:02p

Love the Secret Agent station, but can't help noticing the conspicuous absence of Lalo Shiffrin on the dossier. Is he so deep cover that your surveillance missed him? -- Clandestine Ops, February 23, at 2:21p

I'm a poor, starving college student and I still donate... we have to keep you guys on the air, despite what certain "friends" of ours might want (four letters, starts with an R and ends with an A). Love the tunes, keep it up. I'm also working on finding another sever for the system. -- Dick, February 23, at 10:06a

It really is amazing how great the beats, grooves and sounds are from this station. It never ceases to amaze me how great it feels to be moved by it's music. What a fantasic collection of music both from Groove Salad and Secret Agent. -- Glenn Donnelly, February 23, at 9:22a

AMAZING! Listening from FSU in Tallahassee, Florida - discovered this stream on my imac - the power will have to shut down in order for this great music to stop!! -- Doug Singer, February 23, at 1:02a

Oh yes, this is good. You've got just the right kind of music that I like - it's just Perfect to have in the background. Ambient when I'm to sleep, and Agent and Beats to games, writing, and just chillin'. Perfect. If I had any money, I'd perhaps donate, but I'm a student (what more do I have to say ;) If you don't keep up the good work I'll spank your butt ;D -- M, February 22, at 5:53p

Hi guys, just wanted to send you DJ's some congrats from a Belgian fan... Your sound reminds me of 'Little Fluffy clouds'; how smoothing it was to me the first time I put my ears on your streams! Thanks for Drone Zone, it's introduced me to some amazing music that's also very inspiring, since I'm an electronic music composer as well as avid listener. I'll be sending you my CD soon. I work for Sirius Satellite Radio and listen to you all the time at work. I'm glad you survived CARP. There is one problem though- sometimes I can see the artist and title, but most of the time the artist and title are just the track of the CD such as 03. Fire Trance #3. I can sometimes find out the artist by a search for the track name on Google, but if the title is something like "Spectrum" this is difficult. I realize you don't have the staff of something like live365 to keep this up, so this is just a comment. -- Steven Curtin, February 21, at 6:44a

So glad you're back! Missed you at work! Work does go faster with headfones on Big Url! =) -- Nic, February 21, at 4:21a

I listen to sirius in my car during the day, and even though I can listen to it on the internet I listen to nothing but groove salad and then drone zone. I know this station is listener supported, but the stuff you guys play is not heard anywhere on the radio. I have purchased five CD,s because of what I have heard you play, so I think it is time for some of the artist and distributors to anty up! Why don't you guys go direct with CDnow, and make a little coin to keep you guys going. Just a thought... -- Tranel Hawkins, February 20, at 11:01p

And he went into the water, washing off the dark and contorted images left there by the world. Suddenly, the rhythm of his muscles brought back to life the smell of his own skin. Perhaps never before had he been so aware of the harmony between himself and the world, of the rhythm linking his movements with the daily course of the sun. Now, when the night was overflowing with stars, his gestures stood out against the sky's immense and silent face. By moving his arm, he can sketch out the space between this bright star and its flickering, intermittent neighbor, carrying with him sheaves of stars and trails of clouds. So that the waters of the sky foam with the movement of his arm, while the town lies around him like a cloak of glittering shells.--Camus. Thanks for DZ. Peace. -- mindrazor, February 8, at 0:12a

Just wanted to drop a line on this Feb 3, 22:30 GMT-8. The Drone Zone simply //rocked\\ tonight, in as much as ambient can "rock." Great selection. I was deep into it the whole time while working in my dark room mixing up photos. Thanks. -- Ioa, February 3, at 10:42p

PLEASE go easy on the religous content - it's NOT attractive. "the light of jesus" just plain sucks. Oh and lose the white on black! Other than that you guys OWN. -- yage, February 3, at 5:19p

I want the lyrics to "GO FOR IT" Written by: SCOTT GALE, RICH EAMES -- Kim Holland, February 2, at 2:51p

Waves of the direct, yet not so sure dub are just killing me... SomaFm displaying what the city by the sea sounds like, mind music for an out of place urbanist trapped in florida... Definitely not backalley, methed out escapism, but the daily prosaic confronted and sculpted into a nice little ephemeral smirk, -- jacksd2receptor, February 2, at 1:25p

Been listening all afternoon, doing bills. Your sounds have been helping me keep my cool. Thanks. -- Dan, February 2, at 1:15p

Thanks for your response MadJo!! -- Sarah, January 30, at 8:25p

I always listened to SomaFM at work, when it was shut down I was sad. And soon after profits dropped and my company was forced to do massive layoffs. I was one of them. a few months later they brought me back, and the other day I decided to check and see whats going on at somafm.com, I SAW MUSIC HAPPENING THERE!!! So I dove into the Groove Salad face first and the first song I heard was Exciting New Direction, It reminded me of mine and soma's temporary setback :) I am glad things are back now and I hope you know I am going to try to hook a computer into our telephone system so that all of our customers can have a nicely chilled plate of ambient hold music! Muwahahaha! -- Narcosys, January 30, at 5:54p

If it wasn't for this place, I think I'd go crazy from lack of good music. I'm going to direct all my friends this way and encourage them to donate too! -- V, January 30, at 2:16p

I think its really stupid that you have to pay to broadcast.I think the record companies should pay you...Thanks to you I discover new music everyday. Keep it up Soma and dont let them get you.//simon -- Simon B., January 30, at 3:05a

To Sarah: for her question of who sang: "Hello" (see text copy) 19:15:57 Hello The lyrics included the following: "its far to late for me to say what i should say... two years ago its been a while..its not been that long.... wasting all your wasted knowledge wasted on me... saying good bye i could be gone today...i could be miles away around around......" kind of a mellow laid back song and really cool. The answer to that question is: "The Jim Yoshii Pile-Up" with the song "Hello" -- MadJo.net, January 30, at 3:05a

no. not anything. never another. never better. no thing. nothing else, nothing. (double space the periods) and kick-ass the shit ass the shit kicks my ass!@ -- nil, January 29, at 10:47p

can you help me identify a vaguely titled song? it was played Wed. 1/29 at 19:15:57 and was identified simply as "Hello" (see text copy) 19:15:57 Hello The lyrics included the following: "its far to late for me to say what i should say... two years ago its been a while..its not been that long.... wasting all your wasted knowledge wasted on me... saying good bye i could be gone today...i could be miles away around around......" kind of a mellow laid back song and really cool. I'm a bit embaressed about the bandwith and costs-situation, but more than that I'm absolutely packed of your great program. It's a long time ago that I've been tied in front of a radio for more than one hour. Keep it, support is yours. -- Max Power, January 29, at 3:51p

Hey fantastic music guys. The cliphop server is often full though.. I have been on soma fm often for a year now and I miss the DnB channel. But cool site! -- Peter (London), January 29, at 3:25p

Big Fenk You for all at Soma for the brilliant music. Now I don't have to listen to the crap on Dutch radio stations anymore! Yeah, Ooooozzzzz.... Btw, I don't exactly get the point of that silly "Small Webcasters Amendment Act", guess its still all about beating the money out of your peasants ;-), but anyway, I wish I could help somehow (yes ofcourse with donating). Please, how can a Dutch fan contribute? -- Testoronius (Netherlands), January 29, at 2:42p

I was just wondering the power and the bandwidth given to the SHOUTCast servers ^^. There is about 2500 connected to the station "groove salad", it would need 320Mbps of bandwidth !!!! Or maybe i haven't really understood how works the SHOUTCAT system... -- Gruik, January 29, at 1:36p

i started listening to groove salad months and months ago.. but i lost the net and finally i got it back.. /me drools. i forgot how much i loved it. -- kristina, vancouver b.c, January 29, at 11:14a

Dude! I'm hooked! Rusty, I ran into you on the FnF list, I finally got a puter and am listening constantly. Mostly to the CliqHop, which had lots of BreakCore, CliqDud and other stuff, I noticed alot of Venician Snares before the show on Fri. (Which Kicked Ass BTW). Anyway I just wanted to know where you guys pick up so much good music? My suggestions are: more live, more Autechre, more BreakCore, a Dub station, a movie soundtrack station, and a (hehehe)Ipecac station (ie: Mike Patton, Fantomas, Mevin's, etc., etc.). If yer ever looking for any help or a DJ, please feel free to ask (I live in Oakland) You can also check out Feedback Radio 93.7 9am-11am in SF Cheers, Brad (Q23) -- Brad, January 26, at 1:14p

Hey. I'm sure I've written before to tell y'all how awesome this "station" is. Came across it about a year ago and have been listening regularly ever since. I am SOOOO glad to see you back on the air! I've listened to every stream you have at some point or other. My fave's, however, are Groove Salad and Secret Agent. Now, I think I have another: Boot Liquor! Been listening to that for the past week or so. I recently moved to Oakland from Santa Cruz where there's a very famous radio station, KPIG. Boot Liquor plays similar artists, which is awesome! Especially since KPIG went off the internet air for the same reasons you did for a spell. At any rate, keep up the good work. I just moved so my finances are a bit tight at the moment, but as soon as I get some funds, a donation to soma fm is a top priority. Cheers, Jason -- Jason Chafin, January 24, at 9:51a

Guys, you really need to set it up so that the artists display instead of having the song displayed twice in the player (LoseAmp 3 and WinAmp 2). Half the songs in cliqhop and DroneZone don't have artists and there are some interesting songs that I'd like to find the rest of the CD for to see if it is similar. Just yesterday, one of the rare artists you displayed I've found that he has -=29=- CDs out and I never knew it (Pete Nimlook). Thanks for having these stations. People, please donate if you want these stations to stay on the air (and yes, I've put some money where my mouth is). -- Randy, January 20, at 8:39a

That should read: "Gobbles *GOT* you," not "Gobbles GO you," Too bad I didn't spell-check. :) -- Zen Render, January 15, at 10:34p

To Whomever Posted About the "RIAA Infection" Looks like Gobbles go YOU, with their hoax about the RIAA and their P2P "Hydra." The RIAA has had their own site defaced a number of times in the past few months, so I figure they'd be more interested in their *own* security than in trying to attack P2P networks. They've got their lawyers for that. http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3973,828000,00.asp talks about this hoax. Even the thread on SecurityFocus talks about the suspect validity of the "Vulnerability" information. BTW, LOVING SomaFM. Drone Zone is my fave place to be. Glad to see you back online again. -- Zen Render, January 15, at 10:32p

Hell yeah! I started listening to groove radio a couple years ago -- my first real job out of college... I was so sad when it looked like internet radio would be shut down, and am still unhappy that it's still possible. But damn am I glad you guys are back! P.S. I've bought more cds listening to this station then I ever have listening to conventional radio! -- phenomenon, January 15, at 6:51p

Love that you're back on the air. I missed you dearly. You just happen to play some of the best music for a creative writing major to listen to while studying. Also, the crazy dreams I have when I listen to the feed at night help with source material. Peace. -- Ross, January 11, at 2:26p
